During the recent campaign a pastor in St. Paul wants to endorse a political party. The law says if a religion wants to maintain its tax free status you can't take a political stand when speaking in a role of religious authority: as from the pulpit. I am not sure that goes far enough, maybe jail time would be the right approach. Our founding fathers had it right. Nothing good has ever come from religion taking part in politics. It leads to religious persecution (of other religions and internal factions with different beliefs). The religious can't seem to apply political power without forcing their beliefs on others by persecution of those with different beliefs.
